Paris take on Stade Rennais on Sunday, looking to continue their winning run of games in Ligue 1.
Since losing to Toulouse back in September, Paris Saint Germain have gone unbeaten in all competitions, although it must be said that the results have not been particularly convincing. Narrow wins against Nancy and Lille in that time have increased the pressure on new manager Unai Emery. Then to create even more stress for the Spaniard, Les Parisiens struggled in the ‘Classique’ against Marseille and could only come out with a poor 0-0 draw. In comparison, last season Paris beat Marseille three times, including a easy 4-2 win in the French Cup Final. Therefore, a large victory on Sunday will go down a treat for Unai Emery and Paris Saint Germain.
However, it doesn’t look like a walk over for Paris. Stade Rennais currently lie 5th in the table, only 3 points behind PSG, and are currently on a unbeaten run of their own in Ligue 1. Their only defeat so far was on the opening day to Monaco and they can boast a 3-2 win over Marseille as well this season.
So a much needed victory for Unai Emery may be hard to accomplish against an in form Rennes side on Sunday evening. As well as the ever growing pressure from the media and fans on the manager, Paris also need to stay in touch with high flying Nice and Monaco. Who play Nancy and Caen, who together make up two of the three bottom places in Ligue 1. Hence making it even more crucial that PSG come away with a win at Le Parc this weekend.
