In July 2013, Edinson Cavani joined Paris Saint Germain from Italian club Napoli and since then Cavani, nicknamed El Matador (The Matador), has scored some beautiful goals and on Wednesday night, the Uruguayan fired home his 100th goal for PSG. It only took him just over 3 years to get this incredible achievement, and its made even more special considering he has played as a second striker to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during most of his time in France.
Edinson Cavani’s first season in the capital was a huge success. He scored on his first start for PSG in the dying minutes in spectacular style with his ‘weaker’ left foot. He went on to score 25 goals in all competitions, including portably his best goal for Paris against Bastia when he beat 3 players including the keeper in a tight, congested area and slotted home from a very tight angle!
The Uruguayan kept up his scoring records in he next two seasons, netting 25+ goals in both seasons. Report about Cavani being inpatient after being forced to play on the wing at the expense of Zlatan Ibrahimovic came out in the media but Cavani kept up his form and continued to score. Helping Paris on their way to two quadruple winning seasons in a row.
And in the summer of 2016 his patience payed off when the Swedish striker left at the end of his contract, allowing Cavani the chance to play the role of lead striker. So far this season has treasured this role, playing in immense form and is averaging more than a goal a game, and the amazing achievement has come quicker than most expected. When Ben Arfa was fouled in the area and won a penalty, there was only one man to take and El Matador stepped up and fired in his 100th goal for Paris.
Cavani is now only 9 goals behind Pauleta on the Paris Saint Germain scoring charts and you wouldn’t count him out of catching Ibrahimovic on 156 goals for the French Champions.
