The facts are straight forward on Tuesday night, PSG must better the result that Arsenal get at Basel to finish top. Sounds simple! A win at home to one of the lowest ranked teams in this years competition will send PSG top of the group and additionally will bring an ‘easy’ Round of 16 tie.
In the previous game week, PSG travelled to Arsenal and returned to the French capital with the minimum they wanted, a 2-2 draw that meant that PSG are top of the group due to away goals in their head to head games against Arsenal. Preferably, PSG would of liked to have ended the game at the Emirates in a win and already confirm their top spot. Although they hold the advantage over Arsenal, a win will guarantee the first place finish.
PSG have already travelled to and beaten the Bulgarian champions, Ludogorets, 3-1 earlier in the Champions League group stage and are the clear favourites to come out with the right result again. However, Ludogorets also have a Europa League spot on the line by finishing third, above of Arenal’s opponents Basel. This therefore means that Ludogorets are certainly not push overs and we should be in for a cracker at the Parc Des Princes.
Les Parisiens fortune in Group A could go right down to the wire with Basel hosting Arsenal elsewhere in the group. A game that will be closely watched and will determine PSG’s destiny. But in Paris, PSG look to have too much quality to threatened by the Bulgarians and should be one of the top seeds going into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
