Match Preview: Paris Saint Germain face a vital game at Guingamp

On Wednesday night, PSG put out a very youthful and inexperienced team against Lille in the Coupe de la Ligue and now the first team must build on this in the league in order to catch up on high flying Nice and Monaco.

The reigning champions have had a tough couple of weeks recently but the 3-1 win in midweek against Lille means Paris have regained some momentum that they have craved since being demolished by Montpellier back at they start of December. As it stands, PSG are third in the league and are unable to take first place off Nice this weekend who are currently 4 points ahead. Monaco are 3 points above Paris but with an extremely wealthy goal difference too.

Guingamp also come into the clash on the North West coast of France with a win over French heavyweight Lyon in midweek. They sit 6th in Ligue 1 but have only register one win throughout the months of November and December.

PSG were victorious last sedan at Guingamp. Lucas Moura got both second half goals.

Emery has recognised that PSG need to improve defensively and get back to their impressive record before the Montpellier and Nice matches. The Spaniard also commented on the lack of creativity in the attack and stated that Paris need to be a lot more “Efficient” going forward.

Paris only two matches left until the winter break comes around in France. At this stage last year, Les Parisians already looked out of sight but this year its a different story due to greater completion. Therefore, PSG need to step up that extra gear in the second half of the season, a gear that they have shown they have in previous campaigns and hopefully Paris will be able to end the first half of the season strongly and it will be only a matter of time until they are back at the top of the table where they belong, staring with a trip to Guingamp on Saturday.
