When I predicted a 3-0 win to Les Parisiens, I certainly did not expect to see the extraordinary display that PSG treated us to on Saturday night. An emphatic 7-0 win books Paris’ place in the next round of the Coupe De France as well as exiting the fans with a taster of what might be to come in order to catch up in the next part of the season.
It had been a frustrated end to 2016 for Paris supporters and players alike but 2017 definitely looked promising when Thiago Silva continued where he left off with another great header from a corner. And it got better when Adrien Rabiot struck a shot into the bottom corner. Rabiot had left a huge hole in the PSG midfield when he was out injured for the last couple of months, but the future looks bright with him back in the side.
Four different goalscorers followed including a beautiful strike from Nkunku, who had a goal disallowed for offside earlier in the match; Thiago Motta bagged himself a collectors item; Lucas and Angel Di Maria followed, with the latter hoping to recover and regain his true qualities going into the new year.
Then new signing Julian Draxler broke through the Bastia defense and finished perfectly to add the icy on the cake with a debut goal for Les Parisiens. Di Maria looked back to his best in the victory and confidence looks to be soaring inside the PSG camp, with this 7-0 win which followed a 5-0 destruction of Lorient at the back end of 2016.
Final Score: PSG 7-0 Bastia
Top Performance: Christopher Nkunku – The 19 year old had a great game, he finished off a great counter attack earlier in the match which was unfortunately offside but nobody was taking away is fantastic strike which made it 3-0 and sealed the game.
PSG v Metz, Wednesday 11th January, 8:05pm (Coupe De La Ligue) – PSG look in great shape now to defeat Metz, who currently sit 19th in Ligue 1, and Paris will be looking to overcome them comfortably like they did earlier in the season in order to move into the semi finals of another one of the domestic competition they have used to dominating in recent seasons under Laurent Blanc.
PSG 3-1 Metz
