Match Review: Thiago Silva steals the show as PSG ease into the Semi’s of the League Cup

Captain Thiago Silva scored for the third consecutive game to book Paris’ spot in the last 4 of the Coupe De La Ligue and became the first team in French history to achieve 14 straight wins in what has become known as their competition.

Thiago Silva headed Paris Saint Germain into the lead with another header from a corner, following a Di Maria delivery, which differentiates from the Brazilian’s last two goals which were both assisted by fellow Brazilian Lucas Moura.

Then the skipper, who had already bagged his third goal in as many games, burst his way into the path of another corner and powered the header past the on looking keeper. As a result, Thiago Silva was given the highest score of the match of 7/10 by L’Equipe sports paper in France.

The other shining star in the PSG lineup last night was Angel Di Maria. The Paris winger has had a troubled season so far and has failed to keep up any form or consistency which he showed during his first season in France. But his fortunes have seemed to made turn for the better in recent matches. A goal on the weekend was followed by two more assists last night and the Argentine seems to be getting back to his best and at a crucial time of the season too!

It was an impressive and bright performance to overcome Metz in the 2-0 win at the Parc and consequently, Paris will travel to Bordeaux for the Semi Finals of the Coupe De La Ligue later on this month. A game that PSG supporters will look forward too but it must be stated that it adds to a busy set of pivotal fixtures that are now increasingly building up on Paris heading into a must win set of matches that could revive and kick start their season…

Final Score: PSG 2-0 Metz

Top Performance: Thiago Silva – The Paris captain scored two great headers which put his team deservedly through into the semi finals of the Coupe De La Ligue.
