PSG go into their first Ligue 1 game of the year off the back of fine form in the cup competitions and Paris now look to gain ground on Monaco and Nice at the top of the table.
Paris have started 2017 in great form. Their last game in the league was an impressive victory over bottom side Lorient and since then they have put seven goals past Bastia and eased past Metz in midweek, and haven’t conceded a goal either.
The form look good for Les Parisiens and fixtures also look promising. They travel to Rennes this weekend in the hope of catching up the 5 point that separates themselves form Nice who lead the way in Ligue 1.
Rennes are seventh going into the first league game of 2017. They too won very comfortably in the French Cup against lower league JA Biarritz but PSG will be hoping to replicate their 4-0 win over them earlier in the season. PSG’s last three wins have been at the Parc Des Princes and their away form will be scrutinised when playing the Rennes who may be a tough test.
In addition, Julian Draxler is likely to return and he will bring added inspiration to the Paris team. Also, Adrien Rabiot is set to make his first league appearance and his quality in midfield certainly makes PSG play better football. The Frenchman grabbed a goal last weekend on his return from injury and scored in the home fixture against Rennes in November.
Paris Saint Germain still have many quality players missing for the clash at Rennes. Krychowiak, Pastore and Augustin are still out of the squad. Aurier is out at the AFCON with Ivory Coast, so Meunier will continue to start at Right Back, and Giovanni Lo Celso is out but Draxler is in the squad.
