Match Review: El Matador shines once again against Nantes

On Saturday afternoon, it was Edinson Cavani who inspired PSG to a 2-0 win over Nantes, one of the most in form teams in Ligue 1 at the moment. In doing so, Paris Saint Germain moved up to only one point away from Nice and three away from new league leaders Monaco.

Les Parisiens are unbeaten so far in 2017 and their main source of goals, Edinson Cavani, scored his first goal of the year following an impressive team move that ended up with Lucas playing a great ball into the box for Cavani to finish.

A perfect team goal, however, was bettered half way through the second half by the Uruguayan once again. He curled a fantastic free kick over the wall and into the top corner to double Les Parisiens lead. It was an amazing goal that marked Cavani’s 20th league goal already this season, with his eyes now firmly marked on reaching the 30 goal mark by the end of the season.

Edinson Cavani had an exceptional performance in front of goal this weekend, but Marco Verratti’s yellow card incident was the main talking point across the world of football. In the first half, Verratti found himself in acres of space and instead of passing back to Kevin Trapp, he bent down and nodded back with his head. It was a very bizarre incident which seemed confused the whole Paris team and supporters alike when he was given a yellow form the referee.

After the match referee Johan Hamel explained that he judged Verratti’s actions as “anti-sporting behavior” and punished him for attempting to “get around the laws of the game.”

On the down side, Julian Draxler came off injured during the latter stages of the game but Emery has since stated that it is not a serious injury, but in all likeliness he may miss the semi final with Bordeaux on Tuesday.

Final Score: Nantes 0-2 PSG

Top Performance: Edinson Cavani – Two great goals for two seperate reasons which means that Cavani extends his lead in the race for the Ligue 1 goldern boot and is up to 20 league goals.

Next Match: Bordeaux v PSG, Tuesday 24th January, 8:00pm
