Match Review: A flat Paris move up to second with hard fought win at Dijon

Paris Saint Germain beat Dijon on the weekend at the Stade Gaston Gerard stadium  with a comfortable 3-1 win thanks to goals from Lucas Moura, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani, despite looking flat and sluggish up for the best part of the 90 minutes.

Les Parisiens are still unbeaten this calendar year but the victory this weekend had added importance due to a match of great significant earlier in the day. It was the top two that went head to head in Monaco and Les Rouge et Blancs eased past Nice to extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1.

Although the game including the only two teams above PSG before kick off didn’t go perfectly from a Paris perspective, Emery’s men were able to overcome Dijon and move up to second in Ligue 1. This year has much more of competitive edge to it and therefore the reigning champions cant afford any more slip ups in their quest to chase down the three points that separate themselves and Monaco.

Lucas Moura was the man that broke the deadlock just before the half an hour mark at the second time of asking once his first attempt rebounded back to him. Dijon replied instantly and went in level at half time.

The second half was frustrating as PSG looked flat and sluggish all over the pitch but much to the relief of the supporters, Captain Thiago Silva restored their lead and Edinson Cavani finished off the game soon after. All three goals were scrappy and unattractive but nonetheless Paris moved above Nice in the table as a result.

Paris will need to step up their performances with an important clash with Lille on Tuesday and Bordeaux next weekend to come in the near future.

Final Score: Dijon 1-3 PSG

Top Performance: Thiago Silva – The defence made many mistakes during the match but the captain looked assured throughout and scored at the perfect time to rescue Les Parisiens.

Next Match: PSG v Lille, Tuesday 7th February, 8:00pm
