On Tuesday evening Paris host Lille who have struggled to find any sort of consistency this season and this allows Emery to possibly experiment with the depth and quality of his current squad in midweek.
The win over Dijon on the weekend was a struggle for Paris and it is a must for Emery to gather positive momentum with a clash with Barcelona just around the corner. PSG are also up to second now after moving above Nice in the league and remaining undefeated is crucial in order to stay where they are and keep in touch with Monaco; who take on Montpellier on Tuesday too.
PSG have an important run of fixtures ahead and that could tempt Unai Emery to experiment with the squad, despite the manager stating he won’t differ from his regular starters. Hatem Ben Arfa has looked vey lively during the previous opportunities. He inspired Paris to a comfortable 4-0 win over Rennes last week and his introduction on the weekend was influential, possibly making it hard for Emery not to give the Frenchman a start at home to Lille. Goncalo Guedes played a key part in the win at Dijon too and it wont be too long until he gets given his full debut from Emery, especially with rumours that Emery is keen to deploy his admired 4-2-3-1 formation against Lille.
“Gonçalo (Guedes) is a young player. He played a few minutes on Friday and played well. He could start on Tuesday”
Unai Emery before the clash with Lille
Lille have lacked consistency this season and come into the game off the back of a home loss to the team who sit rock bottom if Ligue 1, Lorient. Paris’ opponents have recently gained a new owner but sitting 12th in the table with a poor run of results will give Les Parisiens a lot of hope going into the match.
The two teams have already faced each other twice this season with the team from the capital victorious on both occasions. Lille will have to be wary of many of Paris’ in form players; in particular Edinson Cavani and Lucas Moura who, as well as scoring on the weekend, bagged a brace in the cup back in December.
Emery has said that he is unlikely to change much of the team that started the win at Dijon on the weekend. Di Maria is back again for selection but Verratti, Krychowiak, Trapp and Pastore are all absent due to injury.
