Paris Saint Germain have had a successful time since returning from the international break; winning their fourth straight Coupe de la Ligue before defeating Avranches 4-0 to move into the semi’s of the Coupe de France. Now Les Parisiens go up against EA Guingamp in Ligue 1 as they attempt to chase down league leaders AS Monaco.
Hatem Ben Arfa had his best game for Paris in midweek when he bagged a brace in Paris’ 4-0 thrashing of third division side Avranches but Paris must now turn their attention back to Ligue 1 when they face a team that has already got the better of them this season in EA Guingamp as we approach the final run in of the 2016/17 season.
“It Starts with a win against Guingamp on Sunday. Nice are in good form right now too and are close to us. So we have to take three points match after match”
Unai Emery, PSG.fr
Unlike previous seasons PSG have catch up to do as they season reaches the final stages of the season. Monaco are three points clear with a sufficient goal difference too so there is no room for error or complacency for the French champions. Discounting that game in Barcelona, Emery and Paris have had a very positive year so far which is a complete contrast to a dreadful December they experienced when this weekends opponents were one of many teams to take points off Les Parisiens.
EA Guingamp have had mixed fortunes over the last month. They recorded a healthy 5-0 victory over Bastia before being easily beaten by Angers before the international break. Since then, however, they have beaten Nancy and, like PSG, have progressed into the semi finals of the Coupe de France.
In front of the Parc Des Princes, Paris should have too much talent and quality to avoid another defeat to Guingamp and hopefully disappointing memories will take any complacency out of the fixture this weekend.
PSG are without Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Thiago Motta, Cristopher Nkunku and Grzegorz on Sunday evening which takes away a lot of experience out of the defence especially. Fortunately going forward PSG don’t have as many issues and may be reliant on those up top to get the job done.
