Paris travel to Angers for the first match of the weekend in Ligue 1, looking for another victory to put pressure on a Monaco side that may be tiring after a challenging schedule.
Paris Saint Germain have been mounting a very respectable title chase since that damaging defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League last month. They’ve won three consecutive wins in the league, including an impressive 4-0 win at home to Guingamp last week which they will hope to build on Friday night, knowing any slip ups could be costly for their title hopes.
“Our main objective is to win; win each match as the competition is very stiff in our league”
Unai Emery, PSG.fr
Last Sunday saw Paris’ man of the moment, Edinson Cavani, score another brace to add to his excellent goal tally this season. The Uruguayan was very much in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimović last season when he scored an incredible 50 goals in all competitions but Cavani has stepped up this season in his absence and incredibly is doing a good job at chasing down his predecessors scoring record.
PSG, however, may find Angers a difficult team to get past tonight. They limited free scoring Monaco to one goal last week and reached the Coupe de France semi finals too with a 2-1 win against Bordeaux. The hosts have had a stuttering form guide but at home they have been impressive recently.
Emery will be hoping his men can take all three points away from Angers which will see PSG move level on points with Monaco at the top of Ligue 1 table and put pressure on them when they face Dijon on Saturday.
Layvin Kurzawa, Thiago Silva and Julian Draxler are the biggest absences from the squad due to injury. Hatem Ben Arfa also misses out but Emery will be happy to welcome Marquinhos back into the defence.
