Paris Saint Germain put five past a helpless Monaco side on Wednesday night on their way to a third Coupe de France finals in as many years. With no European hopes and their chances fading of winning the league for the fifth consecutive year, the Coupe de France looks as if it may be their only realistic opportunity of picking up any more silverware this season. With Monaco having completely contrasting views towards this competition, it was a walk in the park for PSG as they cruised to a 5-0 victory.
Julian Draxler opened the scoring for PSG with one of the simplest goals he will score for Les Parisiens after 40 year-old De Sanctis made a mess of a tame Angel Di Maria effort on goal. Top scorer Edinson Cavani who signed a new contact with the capital club – keeping him in Paris until 2020 – on Tuesday was quick to double Paris’ lead with a stylish flicked finish. PSG didn’t lie down in the second half: Matuidi and Marquinhos added to their goal tally’s after an unfortunate Mbae own goal helped Paris to a comfortable win.
Emery’s men dominated the game from start to finish – leaving stand in goalkeeper Areola very little do to except make a excellent diving save to his left to deny Diallo in the first half. Angel Di Maria also put in another excellent performance. Despite not finding the back of the net himself El Fideo was once again at the heart of everything that was impressive about Paris last night.
The 5-0 victory sets up a final with Angers next month and as the holders, Paris Saint Germain and Emery will fancy themselves for cup success in the 100th edition of the competition.
Final Score: PSG 5-0 Monaco
