An unsatisfactory Ligue 1 campaign ended in more disappointment from Les Parisiens as they were prevented from taking all three points in front of the Parc Des Princes by a Caen equaliser in stoppage time. The point was enough for the visitors to avoid the drop but it was certainly mixed emotions from everyone involved at Paris Saint Germain. The season ends with a sizeable 8 point gap between PSG and league winners Monaco, and it is a season that the Paris fans will want to forget quickly.
The performance on the night was lifeless and stale which unfortunately sums up Paris’ Ligue 1 campaign. Maxwell received an guard of honour before kick off and the game started off on a high note when Adrien Rabiot put the capital club ahead after 14 minutes, but that was about the only thing that got the Paris fans out of their seats during the 90 minutes. Kevin Trapp denied Rodelin from the spot with 15 minutes to go but Maxwell’s farewell ended in bitter disappointment when Rodelin made up for his error and equalised in the 91st minute – much to the delight of all the travelling supporters.
The final result didn’t prevent veteran Maxwell having an emotional send off from the Parc Des Princes after the game too. Edinson Cavani also picked up his award for topping the goal scoring charts in France with an astonishing 35 league goals this season. The South Americans and his teams mates now have to put aside the stale 1-1 draw and focus on the crucial Coupe de France final next week, which could make or break an overall underwhelming season in the capital.
