Neymar bagged himself a well earned goal and an assist in his Paris Saint-Germain debut as they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory at Guingamp. The impressive victory meant PSG have recorded back to back wins, and clean sheets, to start the new 2017/18 season and move up to second behind Lyon.
For the first 45 minutes the hosts frustrated Les Parisiens and managed to limit the €222 million man to just one long ranged sight at goal in which he could not trouble the keeper. Cavani did manage to test Karl-Johan Johnsson but was denied after a low, sharp shot and a fine free kick. Marquinhos came closest during the first half when he was picked out by Neymar and was very unlucky to see his bullet header rebound back off the crossbar.

Guingamp’s hard work was unravelled just 7 minute after the break when Ikoko – dubbed ‘the most watched right back’ this weekend – scored a comical own goal. Shortly after Neymar sent Edinson Cavani though on goal to double their lead. Di Maria had another disappointing outing which resulted in him receiving a lot of stick from the fans, but the Neymar-Cavani partnership has a very entertaining feel about it for months, and possible years to come.
With the game drawing to a close only one thing was missing from a professional display, and the fans got what they wanted. Cavani returned the favour and Neymar took his one clear-cut chance, finding the roof of a open net from close range in the 83rd minute.
The world’s most expensive player stood out for the all the right reasons and showcased his €222 million price tag in front of the footballing world in his highly anticipated debut. Cavani and Neymar were the standout performers in an accomplished 3-0 victory, and both made it into French sport paper, L’Equipe’s, team of the week with 8/10 ratings on the night.
