Celebrating his 19th birthday, Kylian Mbappe – sporting a new blonde hairstyle – bagged himself a first-class goal and an assist of the highest quality. The Frenchman was the first to register a chance nine minutes in but couldn’t keep down his shot after rounding the Caen keeper.

Mbappe then went on a world-class mazing run down the right wing before picking out Edinson Cavani in the middle whole crashed home his 50th club goal in 2017, the first player to reach that feat in Europe’s top five leagues – and probably the pick of the bunch too.

PSG remained in full control as per usual and created several chances which they could not convert. Then in the 57th minute Giovanni Lo Celso broke down the wing and Mbappe buried his golden opportunity to double the Parisiens lead.

Lo Celso was also denied a stunner by Vercoutre and the visiting goalkeeper then turned away a low effort from Neymar, who then went onto to set up Yuri Berchiche for Paris’ third goal with a defence splitting pass.

The hosts could consider themselves unlucky when Caen managed to grab a consolation goal from the penalty spot. That, however, made no impact to the comfortable 3-1 score line which secured the Parisiens their 10th straight home win this season, and will go into the new year with a formidable nine-point lead in Ligue 1.

The teenager ended an unbelievable year with another goal and an assist, taking his tally to 32 goals across competitions on his 19th birthday. His assist for the opener was truly breath-taking for Edinson Cavani, another key contender for Man of the Match with his 24th goal in 25 games.
