Dani Alves’ late strike earns PSG all three points in Nice

PSG left it late but came away from the Allianz Riviera with all three points despite falling behind against Nice.

In the lunchtime kick off down on the south coast of France, PSG and Nice faced off in front of a passionate atmosphere inside the Riviera. The hosts pressed PSG effectively early on and Allan Saint-Maximin opened the scoring when he latched onto a through ball and placed the ball past a hopeless Areola.

PSG did create chances for themselves, however, and Di Maria equalised minutes later in style. The Argentine put the ball through the legs of the defender and beat Benitez, who had denied him moments before, with an accomplished finish.

The teams went in level at the break and the second half was evenly poised until Dani Alves – who had been moved further up field with the introduction of Thomas Meunier – climbed highest in the box and headed it past the keeper with eight minutes to go.

Angel Di Maria was the key man in Neymar’s absence and shone again earlier today. He created several moments of magic and his goal was special, and helped PSG on their way to nine consecutive wins in Ligue 1.

Unai Emery – who was at the end of a lot of criticism for similar subs against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu – must be applauded for his tactical changes. Taking off a toothless Edinson Cavani for Thomas Meunier moved Dani Alves up field, and resulted in him finding the eventual winner.

On the other hand, Yuri Berchiche didn’t have much luck in the first half. Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin was getting in behind the Spaniard with a lot of fortune in the first half, but the introduction of Kurzawa at half time tightened up the backline and kept the tricky and talented winger reasonably quiet.

PSG next go to Saint Etienne – off the back of an impressive comeback – on Friday night. Another win will be another big step for the capital club on their way to being recrowned champions of France.
